Denver Pops Orchestra

(a.k.a. The Mostly Strauss Orchestra)

Elisabeth kERN-ROOS, Concertmaster

Elisabeth is excited to be performing as the new concertmaster with the Denver Pops Orchestra and is looking forward to a lively season with this wonderful group of musicians.

Elisabeth can also be heard playing music at coffeehouses with the band AcoUUstics in Lafayette, performing Swing Jazz violin at parties and setting the mood for weddings with the Orion String Quartet. Elisabeth has had the privilege to perform with renowned guitarist Alex Komodore and with the interactive orchestra UnStaged, founded by David Rutherford. For the past two seasons she was a member of the first violin section with the Longmont Symphony.

In May of 2005, Elisabeth received a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance with magna cum laude honors from the Metro State College of Denver. For her last year of studies she was awarded a full scholarship for music talent and academic achievement. She has been concertmaster with the MSCD Symphony under the baton of Adam Flatt and studied violin with Tamara Mullikin all four years. After a season as concertmaster with the Lakewood Symphony she went on with graduate studies in string pedagogy at the College of Music at CU Boulder where she studied violin with Oswald Lehnert.

In the fall of 2007 she opened her HappyToons.net music studio where she teaches violin, guitar and keyboard lessons to students of all ages. She is a member with the American String Teacher Association and attends conferences and workshops to stay connected with peers and learn about the newest developments.

Growing up in Switzerland, Elisabeth began taking violin lessons at the age of seven. As a student of Alice Wild, she soon played first chair and solos with the prizewinning youth orchestra of the Music School Weinfelden. Despite her musical successes she put the violin to the side in order to pursue a career in the Swiss tourism industry, earning a degree from the School of Hotel Management Belvoirpark in Zurich. In her mid twenties, Elisabeth trotted around the globe for
seven months with just a backpack as her luggage. Now she is married to Peter and has two teenage daughters. They all moved to Denver twelve years ago and that is when she rediscovered her love for music while playing violin with the Westminster Symphony, the Timberline Symphony and the Jefferson Symphony.
